Organised by leading sporting auctioneers, Mullock Madeley, the sale of more than 600 items pulled a top price of £1,600 for a Hardy Reel. Auctioneer John Mullock, explains: “This was a fine Hardy all brass four and a half inch Salmon Fly Reel, circa 1896 and in beautiful condition.”

The Hardy Salmon fly reel, circa 1896,
achieved top price of £ 1,600

The buzz in the South Shropshire auction room hushed as John Mullock took a glass lure to nearly twice the guide price when it realised £1,200.

“It was an exceptional and extremely rare silver plated hand carved glass lure in the form of a fish by the famous makers Allcocks.”

Two further reels achieved four figure bids with a rare and early Coxon Aerial three spoke mahogany brass star back and ebonite drum reel making £1,300, while a scarce Allcock’s Aerial four inch alloy Centre Pin Reel, circa 1925 and still running well hooked £1,020.

John continues: “It was a strong sale, with many of the quality items realising well in excess of guide prices. There are collectors out there keen to snap-up items, which will increase in value. As items appear to be getting more scarce many fishing antiques fall into that category.

“We are now looking for entries for our sale on November 17. This is a great opportunity to turnout the loft, there are many people out there who still simply don’t realise the true value of what they have stored away,” says John Mullock.
