They Say
An Interactive Guide to Carp Fishing represents what can only be described as a new era in carp fishing DVDs. The fast paced footage in this revolutionary DVD is blended superbly with informative chapters that will entertain and guide even the most experienced carp anglers out there. The fresh style illustrated by the presenters and a new approach to filming, brings a whole new meaning to the word “EXTREME” in carp fishing. Frank Warwick sets some very high standards and manages to keep Pete Castle in his place with a casting technique that can only be described as breathtaking. Matt Hayes is also at his usual best and, like Frank, shows Pete Castle a thing or two on how to catch carp. The competitiveness of these two is obvious, but there can only be one winner in what turns out to be quite a bloodthirsty match between the both of them.

The special three-camera technology and 3D animation incorporated into this DVD has helped to create a new style of fishing entertainment that is truly unmissable. The DVD has been specifically formatted in an interactive style so that you can choose between a large selection of topical chapters from method feeders to feature finding and there is even some extra sections, which include outtakes and other hilarious material. In one of the chapters you even get to see Frank Warwick revealing his bait secrets and in another witness Matt Hayes feeding and catching some cracking carp at close range off the surface.

The footage for this DVD was filmed over a three-month period and takes you on a journey around some the UK’s top day ticket waters. It also boasts sponsorship from some of the leading companies in the fishing industry, which means that you’re also treated to seeing some exciting new products coming out on the market. If you’re an angler that likes to be entertained then this highly engaging DVD, featuring Matt Hayes, Frank Warwick and Pete Castle in a totally new and original format, covers all aspects of carp fishing and more. As Danny Fairbrass from Korda said: “This is awesome. Too good, in fact!” It really is compulsive viewing.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Fishing ‘movies’ (video and DVD) started with professional productions with a full team of movie making people. For instance, the two videos I made some 20 years or so ago were shot with a 10 man film crew, using two or three professional standard cameras, over three days. And then lots of time was spent in a professional studio editing the movie down to the best one hour production you could possibly get from the umpteen hours of footage that was shot.

Then we went through an era where everyone who owned a half decent (and a few with a less than half decent) camcorder shot a video over an hour or so with one man behind the camera and one man in front of it, with little or no editing and the end result exactly what it was: an amateurish, generally boring movie, that had a blurred picture and little or no sound that was terrible quality.

Now we’ve gone full circle, with more than one camera and top class sound equipment being used. The movies are being skilfully directed on the bank and finely honed in a recording studio. The advent of digital in the shape of DVD has ensured that each and every copy is top quality.

This interactive DVD from Carpcity is a prime example of the new professional era in fishing movie making and uses all the latest technology. The content is almost all what it claims in the ‘They Say’ section above and all I can add is that I personally enjoyed it and learned a few things from much of it. Some of it is in the ‘awesome’ bracket and aimed more at the younger angler, but generally it’s a decent enough production.
