Overview
The unique head features an inner line clip to highlight backdrop indication, which is impossible with standard line clips as the indicator does not drop at the same rate as the line. On a forward take, the line slips out of the inner clip, then comes into play with the ball line clip.
Jeff Woodhouse’s Verdict
I decided to buy a pair of these when the ball-type chain on one of my Solars broke one day and sent the head flying off into the lake. On these, the chain is absolutely spot on, strong enough to hang a highwayman. If I could change one thing it is the length of the leg that attaches to the bankstick or pod, but a minor quibble.
Nash Ballbuster Big Head
All the fittings are stainless steel so the package comes complete with no extras to buy other than add-on weights should you need them (about £ 2.25 each – ouch!) However, although I bought some add-on weights I find I don’t really need them now, the bobbins with the chain are a fair weight as they are.
There is a slot for an isotope, but I shan’t be buying any. I don’t really see the point since they’re only of use at night, chances are you’ll be resting in your bivvy when you get a bite and the LED on the alarm will tell you which rod it is. Isotopes seem superfluous to me, now.
I’ve not really got used to that inner plastic clip, either my line is too fine or the weight of the head is too great with the add-on weight. So I’ve not really bothered with it too much. As far as I’m concerned they work a heck of a lot better than most hangers on the market and I’m sure they will last. The clinching argument for me is the cost, less than £ 20 for two all inclusive.
