Overview

For thirty years the Pike Anglers’ Club of Great Britain has campaigned on behalf of pike and pike anglers, turning a once vilified species into one of the country’s most popular sporting quarries.

This book not only celebrates thirty years of the existence of the PAC, it also seeks to inspire all pike anglers who read it.

Yet still there is an increasing need for organisations such as the PAC. Threats that the pike face are changing as we enter the twenty-first century, both from their continuing persecution by those unaware of the importance that pike play within the aquatic environment, and by the threats posed by the changing climate.

Included within the book are stories of the country’s largest fish, landmark waters and accounts from some of the country’s leading pike anglers, all bonded ‘for the love of Esox’ and the realisation that the PAC is the body to protect their chosen quarry.

The PAC sincerely wish that you too are inspired by this book and will add your voice to the battles ahead by joining the only club dedicated to the promotion of pike and pike fishing.

This book celebrates thirty years of the PAC. Thirty chapters covering all parts of the British Isles, are written by members of the club. All the authors are accomplished pike anglers, many are well known, and at the forefront of pike angling today.

Verdict

PAC30 is a book that oozes enthusiasm. It is enthusiasm for a single species, pike, the master predator of freshwater, source of more stories of monsters than any other species. As a multi-species angler I’m rarely tempted to throw my all into the single species pot, but should I be then PAC30 would come close to tempting me to relinquish all except pike.

It would be unfair of me to single out any one of the 30 chapters by 30 pike anglers, but there were several that had me glued to the pages, such was the power of their words as they related stories of pike and pike angling.

Behind all these stories of great pike angling adventures lies a passion to preserve pike, the very reason why the PAC was formed in the first place 30 years ago, when gaffs were still acceptable and the ignorant killed or mistreated every pike they caught. This book is a tribute to that passion that has no doubt saved the lives of thousands of pike.

And, let’s not forget, this is a great read; it’s a bloody good book all round.
