HORTON CHURCH LAKE

Horton, home of the British grass carp record for so very long, has done it yet again with the capture of this absolute stunner of 39lb 2oz. Whist scales have yet to be officially checked the fish is certain to smash the previous best of 36lb 8oz which was taken from the fishery by Colin ‘Gaylord’ Nash last season.

39lb 2oz British Record Grassie

The new record was taken by 35-year-old Tackle Box employee Kev Ballard from East Grinstead who fished the One Up swim on the 14-acre fishery.

Big Fish Mix
Kevin presented a Nutrabaits cranberry Big Fish Mix boilie on a stiff-hinged pop-up rig over a bed of Dynamite Baits Frenzied Hemp and crushed tigers and beat the fish on 12lb Daiwa Sensor line.

At first Kevin thought he had a hooked a big bream as it did not fight until it got to the margins – where it went “mental”.

The fish was witnessed by RMC Angling Assistant Manager, Viv Shears and former British grass carp record holder and Horton Head Bailiff, Del Smith.

A 40lb specimen is now on the cards from the fishery… watch this space!
