BURGHFIELD BLUE POOL

Bruce Robinson with a 16lb 9oz cracker
That most prolific of RMC Angling carp waters, the Burghfield Blue Pool, was the setting for the first Angler’s Mail RMC junior fish-in of the season last week and in excellent conditions personal bests were shattered right, left and centre.

First to score was Sapcote, Leicester 13-year-old Bruce Robinson who bagged a 16lb 9oz fish early on. Bruce went on to bag a further five fish to 16lb 14oz during the weekend and lost a fair few too.

Young Bruce was helped by RMC Angling’s very own Assistant Manager, Viv Shears, who had more than a few tricks up his sleeve to ensure the carp kept feeding in front of the pair throughout the weekend.

Horton Tricks
Of course it was not only Viv who had a few tricks and the youngsters who shared the bottom end of the lake with the Horton bailiff quartet of Starman, Chef, Gardner Graeme and Toothless Tom picked up a few sneaky tips too.

With the carp showing in the clear margins and around the snags the trio baited up several close-in spots and got the youngsters stalking and straight on the fish as they moved over the beds of bait.

Seven-year-old Jordan Clement was one who took advantage of the stalking opportunities and landed a trio of fish to 13lb 4oz.

Top Fish
The Top fish of the weekend also came courtesy of the Horton lads as Chef took an early bath to ensure that Nick Bassett bagged a cracking common of exactly 20lb.

Having hooked the fish on a plastic pellet and a PVA bag Nick got the fish, 13lb better than his PB, to the edge before it snagged him around a marginal branch.

Thankfully Chef was on hand to climb in and free the fish so that it could be safely landed. Top angling!

Enter the Chillmeister…

Enter the Chillmeister
Making his first (but we suspect not his last) appearance at an RMC / Angler’s Mail junior event Ian ‘Chilly’ Chillcott endured constant torment as Viv and Bruce started to stuff him off the next peg.

The big man tried everything to get the carp feeding for 14-year-old Lewis Faragher and it came good as the youngster netted a cracking PB in the shape of an 18lb 4oz common. Lewis also bagged a mirror of 10lb 8oz and the Chillmeister celebrated his junior fish-in baptism by falling into the lake whilst trying to help… Roll on Chilly’s next appearance at the Sandhurst event in July; we may even sell tickets.

On the other side of Chilly 16-year-old Ryan Eley had the distinct advantage of being teamed up with Burghfield Head Bailiff, Phil Champion. As expected Phil knew his stuff and Ryan bagged four to 13lb 4oz. Ryan also topped the quiz held during the course of the weekend and went home laden with prizes.

Adam Neale with Lewis Faragher

Number One
Number One swim on the Blue Pool can be a tricky one to fish as it is tucked away in a bay behind a small island. The carp are often in there buit if they move out and others are in the swims further down it can be a no-fish nightmare.

13-year-old Adam Neale had Neil Wayte to guide him in the swim and the pair extracted four carp to 11lb 12oz from the area. It could have been a lot more but some dodgy line and circumstanes dictated otherwise. It was, nonetheless, a fine performance in a tricky area for the pairing.

Another stunner for Bruce Robinson

Another New Boy
Another junior-fish in first timer was Angler’s Mail ace carp reported Gary Newman who taught David Allaway a few of his stalking tactics as the pair snaffled a stunning 19lb linear from the edge.

Another Mail ace, Colin Davidson, struggled to get the fish going in front of him and 13-year-old Joff Musson but finally the pair watched as a 13lb 4oz mirror picked up their margin-fished maggot hookbait.

In the adjacent swim top all-rounder Ade Smith also struggled to get the carp feeding for 14-year-old Kieron Jacks so the pair hopped over to the adjacent Match Lake where Kieron bagged 12 carp on float and floater to 7lb.

Thanks
Personal bests and beaming smiles all around are now a fairly constant feature of RMC / Angler’s Mail events but they do not just happen without more than a little help from our friends.

So, all at the following tackle companies please take a bow for your generous prizes: Nutrabaits, Korda, Gardner and Blakes of Windsor.

Many thanks also to the helpers who gave up their weekend and worked their socks off to ensure that everyone caught: Neil Wayte, Starman, Chef, Tom Toothless, Phil Champion, Viv Shears, Ian Chillcott, Gary Newman, Colin Davidson, Graeme Schilling and Adrian Smith.
