During the past twelve months the EA have performed a total of over 94,000 rod licence checks nationwide with an overall evasion rate of 5% recorded.
Analysis of the figures show the highest evasion rates were found in the Thames region with almost 9% of the 13,191 anglers checked unable to provide adequate documentation. The Midlands were second in the list with an evasion rate of 5.5% followed by Southern with 5.1% and North West with 4.9%
At the other end of the spectrum the Anglian region came tops with just 2.9% of 18,854 anglers checked unable to produce the required paperwork.
Anyone over the age of 12 fishing in freshwater in England or Wales must have a valid rod licence; available online or at any post office.
