Andy Browne, 39, owner of the Avon Angling shop in Ringwood High Street, Hampshire, spotted a 3ft long fish swimming up the main road.
So Andy gave chase through the 2ft deep water and eventually cornered it in a car park, whereupon he scooped it up, had his picture taken with it, and then returned it to the nearby Hampshire Avon.
The salmon, estimated at 10lb, had come from the Avon after it had overflowed into the town centre following the recent torrential rain.
Andy said, “I was absolutely stunned. I was looking out of the window to see how high the water level had got when I saw this thing flapping about. I thought, ‘this is too good to miss’ and charged out after it.
“Occasionally you see little fish going across flooded fields, but I’ve never known one to come into a town centre before.”
