UPDATE, FRIDAY, 11th JANUARY

An extensive land and sea search has so far failed to find any trace of 14-year-old sea angler Daniel Nolan who went missing on January 1. Last night Hampshire police said: “We’ve searched everywhere we can and there’s an ongoing missing persons enquiry. “We’re still working on the theory that he did fall into the water, but we would obviously love to be proven wrong.”

UPDATE, FRIDAY, 4th JANUARY

Daniel Nolan is still missing following an intensive search by police, coastguard helicopter, lifeboats and Royal Navy divers.

The parents of the 14-year old sea angler, Pauline and Greg Nolan, say they have not given up hope he will be found alive and have appealed to the public to search sheds and outbuildings, in case Daniel sought shelter from the severe cold.

Hampshire police have released a statement from Mrs Nolan. She said, “We know that the police and coastguard have searched everywhere they can, and accept that he may have fallen in the water, but there is still a chance of Daniel being in the area.”

UPDATE, THURSDAY, 3rd JANUARY

The search for 14-year old Daniel Nolan who went missing during a fishing trip on Tuesday night (see story below) was being scaled down last night.

A police spokesman said the water temperature was around five degrees, making it unlikely that anyone could survive for more than a few minutes. A Royal Navy diving team, a coastguard helicopter, lifeboats and police spent all yesterday trying to find the young angler as his distraught parents waited for news.

Heading the search is Inspector Paul Briggs. He said, “We have searched every possible location between the pontoon and his home and the shop we know he visited last night and we have found no sign of Daniel.”

(Wednesday)

Police and Coastguard officers are today searching for missing schoolboy Daniel Nolan, 14, from Hamble, Hants. Daniel was reported missing early this morning by his parents when he failed to return home from a late night fishing trip.

Although other possibilities are being considered it is feared that he may have slipped into the river Hamble from the pontoon where he was fishing with three other young male friends.

At 11.30pm he went to a nearby store to buy chocolate but the store was closed. On the way back to the river he met his friends who were on their way home declaring it was too cold to carry on fishing.

Daniel told them he would go back to the pontoon to collect his tackle and meet up with them later. He hasn’t been seen since.

Expected home at 2am he was reported missing soon after. Police found his tackle and gloves on the pontoon.

“We are extremely concerned for Daniels’ welfare. It was an extremely cold night and clearly we have to explore the possibility he may have fallen into the river,” a Hampshire Police spokeswoman said.

A police spotter plane and an in-shore lifeboat are helping with the search.
