The April events are as follows:
Weston Super Mare Sea Angling Association Junior Open 15 April
WSMSAA does a fantastic job bringing young anglers into the sport and on 15 April 15 they are holding their junior open beach fishing competition. Up to 50 anglers under the age of 16 are expected to enter the open, which is the first of six matches in the club’s junior league.
Fishing from Weston Beach, anglers can expect to catch eels, flounder, whiting and the odd bass – all of which will be measured and released. Club member John May is chief sponsor of the match and there are some cracking prizes to be won including a mountain bike as first prize as well as a prize for every entrant on the day. On top of that, all those juniors who enter will get free membership of the club. The entry fee is only £2.50. Entrants must be under 16 to fish and have their parents’ permission.

Thorpe Bay Angling Association Beach Open 22 April
Head to Southend-on-Sea in Essex on 22 April 22 where Thorpe Bay Angling Association will be holding its annual Beach Open. Up to 50 anglers are expected to compete in this pegged match, which has been running since the club started back in 1970.
This time of year sees flounder being the target species with conservation being the name of the game and all fish weighed and returned. The match will be fished in two zones from 11.30 to 16.30. Prizes will include 100 per cent pay out of the entry fee, plus optional prizes for sectioned pools and a heaviest fish pool. Entry forms are available from tackle retailers in Southend and the surrounding area. Register at the TEAC Social Club from 8.30 onwards.

Chesil Championships 15 April
Fancy fishing one of the country’s most famous sea angling marks? Head to Chesil Beach on the Jurassic coast in Dorset where West Bay Sea Angling Club will be hosting the 42nd Chesil Championships on 15 April.
This multi-venue shore match, which stretches from East Pier at West Bay to the flagpole at West Bexington, is expected to attract up to 140 anglers. Flatfish will be the target species with dogfish and possible smoothhounds if there’s a swell on the day. Those anglers fishing the rockier marks from the boundaries can expect the odd wrasse and possible other species.
West Bay Sea Angling Club has been going for 57 years and has approximately 130 members who compete in the club’s very busy fixtures list. Members include two current and two former England team members.
Generous prizes are on offer with the additional option of entering a flatfish pool, round fish pool and super pool for the heaviest bag on the day.
