Next year’s Bexhill Sea Angling Festival has been thrown into question after Rother District Council’s scrutiny committee recommended that the council withhold funding for the event next year.

Bexhill SAF - A family-orientated festival that brought great economic benefits to the town...The shock decision was taken despite the very first staging of the event attracting over 10,000 visitors to the town in just one day.

The Angling Trust report that it has been working with other members of the organising committee on a plan to get more commercial sponsors to support the event and ease the burden on the council, who are facing further budget cuts in 2013.

Unfortunately Rother didn’t give the committee time to present this plan before recommending that the council play no further role in financially supporting the festival – despite the economic benefits that the festival brings to the town’s employers and local businesses.

The ATr are requesting everyone who supports the event to write to the council and encourage them to reverse the recommendation not to fund future angling festivals by filling out the form on the website HERE.
