The Botley Mill fish pass was installed three years ago to bypass a mill structure that had prevented sea trout getting up the River Hamble for hundreds of years, and a fish survey has now shown that, at long last, sea trout are able to migrate upstream.

Dave Coombs from Portsmouth and District Angling Club has reported that a few sea trout have been caught by anglers upstream of the pass and Dominic Longley who carried out the survey said:

“It has certainly turned a couple of very dull survey sites into explosively exciting ones!”
