In spite of Shakespeare describing it as ‘new style luggage’ the roll-up holdall has been around longer than the quiver holdalls that most of us favour. What they mean is that it’s an old style that’s been revived.
When you know that Barrie Rickards has designed something then you also know that it’s not just another copy of someone else’s idea. You know that he will have put a lot of thought into it.
The idea of the holdall is to enable you to carry a good selection of already assembled rods. Almost. What you have to do is pop the spools off the reels and slip them into the pockets provided then all you have to do when you need that rod is simply slip the spool back on and away you go. It enables you to carry far more rods than if the reels stayed on the rods. Also, the rods are far more protected than they would be in the quiver holdall.
Inevitably, however, you have to ask yourself first if it’s the style of holdall that suits the type of fishing you do. If you roam the river with one or maybe two rods then I would suggest that a quiver holdall is better. But if you take multiple rods carp or pike fishing then this could be the best bet.
