On the complex there are the 25-30 peg Gainsborough and 10-15 peg Wyre Dell pools both stocked with carp and silvers, Gainsborough’s carp are a little bigger – to 10lb with the Wyre Dell carp in the 2lb to 5lb range and there are a huge head of roach skimmers tench and bream in both pools.
The venues two specimen pools, Eric’s and Stuart’s, both contain carp to 40lb, sturgeon to 20lb and catfish to 70lb and are now also available for winter match bookings. Both these pools in addition to their famous ‘monster’ sized fish also hold huge numbers of quality silvers, including bream to 10lb and roach to 2lb 8oz.
Owner Ivan Norman, himself an accomplished match angler, explained to FM the reasons behind the opening of all of his fabulous pools to club anglers:
“The Gainsborough has been completely netted and re-stocked, we have enough specimen fishing on the complex now so I decided to use Gainsborough as an additional match pool, it’s fishing really well and with the high stock of silvers will be a great club match water, with plenty of bites for all.
“Our former trout pool Wyre Dell was underused so it now has a tremendous head of small carp and silvers and again should provide a club with a great day out, with large mixed nets of fish, even in the winter.
“Our two specimen lakes, Eric’s and Stuart’s, are now available for club match bookings in the winter months and although they are primarily famous for the huge carp to 40lb and cats to 70lb they have a massive population of bream, skimmers and roach and test matches on them have seen winning nets of 60lb with roach to 2-8-0 and bream to 10-0-0 included in the winners’ net, one catfish would have beaten that weight though!”
