Despite the awful weather during the last part of June and throughout July, anglers at www.borwickfishing.co.uk have been far from gloomy. The all-weather paths and pegs have performed well leaving anglers with little need of Wellingtons – and the fish have been obliging bringing to anglers a brightness and cheer which the Sun itself found hard to provide. Carp anglers on Jimmy’s Lake have been catching good numbers of fish with up to four Carp in an overnight session with best this month pulling the scales down to 25lb 8oz. The change in the weather in early June caused a temporary halt to the spawning process which has yet to re-start. This means that many fish have yet to shed their spawn and since they have continued to feed, are now heavier than their normal peak weight at the end of May. Moonscale has not been caught since Liam Briggs caught her at 32lb 10oz on the 8th of May. She had not spawned then and if she still hasn’t spawned could have added 2lb or 3lb to that weight. The best specimen away from Jimmy’s Lake has to Steven Millington’s catch. Fishing on The Last Blast, he took a superbly conditioned Grass Carp of 12lb which has probably never seen a hook before. Most anglers fish The Last Blast and adjacent Burn for smaller fish but there are bigger fish in both. Ledgered luncheon meat of fish flavoured boilies provide a real chance of Barbel and Chub, or, if you are really persistent, a double figure Grass Carp or Wels Catfish. Pleasure anglers float fishing sweetcorn or double maggot on light tackle, on the drop, are making good catches of Rudd and Ide with a sprinkling of Golden Orfe. If the bait does get deeper down past the Rudd and Ide, then Golden Tench, Ghost Carp and Crucians are picking up the bait with the odd Chub, Barbel and Grassie thrown in for good measure. The Match pools are fishing well with weights of 85lb needed on Griffish and 67lb on Fingals. The smaller Carp on Griffish have proved more consistent and even junior anglers have been catching well with 41lb 4oz taking first place in the Morecambe Juniors match. There have been no matches on Dewhirst or Harryss , though anglers practising on Dewhirst are making good catches. There are 250 pegs on site and there is always plenty of space for pleasure anglers, even when matches are being fished. It is very unusal for anglers not to get the peg of their choice on any pool.
