Following a very hectic week on both Temple and the Old Lake, Paul Pitchley finally nailed Temple’s 80th Thirty of the year catching Two Tone weighing 33lbs 4ozs whilst Graham Trudgill caught a 35lbs common from the Old Lake. This was Pauls third thirty from Temple this year.
The fish was caught at around 5.30pm, he caught a 26lbs fish an hour later. Daylight seems to be the best time with more fish showing during the day than at night.
Rig was KD rig, size 8 mugga hook, slackish lines, two grains of fake corn counter balanced cast tight to island.
Bury Hill Fisheries
A famous fishery since its creation in the 19th Century, Bury Hill was renowned through the 1950s for tench and pike sport, and more recently through the 60s and 70s the nation’s finest match anglers travelled hundreds of miles to line its banks to compete in regular competitions.

Fishing magazines, radio and television crews are regular visitors to the fishery, and John Wilson, who has recorded several episodes of his ‘Go Fishing’ series for Anglia TV at Bury Hill, describes his visits here as “a perfect day in paradise”.
It is the tranquillity that sets the mood at Bury Hill. There is no noise from traffic, planes or trains – just the sound of bird song and the sight of wildlife and deer coming down to the lake’s wooded shores to drink.
Temple Lake
The result of a £350,000 project back in 2002 to provide the finest big carp sport possible, Temple Lake is Bury Hill’s land of the giants. Home to a staggering head of English pedigree fish, Temple is big carp fishing at its very best where a 30lbs English specimen is on the cards every time you cast out and every bite brings a carp of 20lbs or arger.
Holding a staggering forty and more 30 pounders in its four acres, all the fish average almost 29lbs, the current best carp banked is 38½lbs with known fish approaching the magical 40lb mark. Growth rates have been phenomenal since stocking with up to 7lbs weight gain in 12 months seen in some instances.
At four acres Temple has been created with dozens of underwater features across all the swims, four central islands creating natural barriers between opposing banks. Varying from six to ten feet deep, all swims access a range of depths to cater for different and changing conditions.
Bury Hill is a fantastic destination for pleasure anglers, specimen hunters, matchmen, beginners and disabled anglers of all ages, and has special facilities to cater for everyone to make their day at the fishery a memorable one.
