REPORT FOR THE HUMBER TO THE THAMES
Not the best of weekends for fishing, with most boats canceling and not too many of you venturing out. As far as I know no boats from Southend have been out, last heard there were plenty of whiting with a few codling in amongst them. Still several roker to be caught when conditions allow.
Whiting are the main target from both the beaches and Southend pier at night, with lug-tipped mackerel strip the favoured bait. George from Canvey Angling points towards Thorney Bay and Southfalls for the best whiting marks with one or two codling to 4lb also featuring in the catches. Ring him for the latest news on 01268 691542.
Stanford Tackle will tell you to go to any mark for plenty of whiting, but mainly Tilbury and Grays. The only report from any boat from the river Crouch was last week with one boat taking six roker, but obviously the river is full of whiting, a fact enhanced by local match angler Mick Capp, when he fished Fambridge and landed 35 whiting and some of them only 20 metres out, fishing for bass with black lug, he was successful with a 2lb fish landed. The two John’s from Bradwell (Rawle and Rook), managed to fish the river at Bradwell at the weekend with good success for whiting and also a few codling to 6lb.
The beaches at Clacton and Walton and Walton pier are producing lots of whiting and several codling. Also some large pouting from the beaches with a 5lb bass also reported. An even larger bass of 9lb was caught from the pier.
Breakaways famous Dave Brown reports on lots of whiting on all the beaches from the river Orwell up towards Orford, with some cod to 5lb, more especially at night. For an up to date report call him on 01473 741393.
Felixstowe beaches are producing lots of whiting and several codling. The odd sole still around with the dip at the butts producing lots of dabs. Jason from Gorleston Angling on 01493 662448 reporting more a mixed bag of goodies with whiting, codling, flounders and dabs. The two best cod reported to his knowledge this week were 8lb 8oz and 9lb. His best tips for the coming week are Gorleston wreck (by the golf club) and beach road at Hopton.
At Great Yarmouth there are lots of dabs, whiting and some codling between 1lb 8oz and 4lb 8oz at the North Beach and the odd bass. Lots of whiting, dabs and flounders from the Mundesley and Bacton marks with the odd sole. You need the latest news then phone Martin at Marine Sports on 01263 513676.
Ade Cooper at Lightwoods in Grimsby has news of whiting to 2lb on lug and mackerel strip, flounders, the odd eel and a few codling from the Shallows.Cod are possible from Hillingholme and Cleethorpes fro some flounders and whiting. Ring him on 01472 343536.
Vickers Point, Huttoff and the outfall at Chapel point are the marks to head for according to Kim at Chapel Tackle for whiting, flounders and the odd bass. Where as Dave Dobbs reports codling to 3lb and a few roker at Holmpton, however he tells me that the river is fishing slowly at the moment with only a few flounders and whting.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
