Graham Elliott will give an in depth talk on The Mighty River Thames, a river that has made a remarkable return to barbel fishing form in recent years. Lots of you will know Graham from his hugely successful guiding days. Ashley Burton, one of the younger generation of barbel anglers making an impact will expand on the Basics of Barbel fishing. If you’ve read his articles in Coarse Fisherman you will know that Ashley has his finger firmly on the pulse and he will certainly be pointing you in the right direction. Dave Mason will give the low down on the work he has carried out on his own Teme fishery to make it one of the most wonderful havens for both fish and angler in the Teme valley. A must for those of you interested in fishery conservation. Stuart Morgan will be talking about the latest dvd he has just completed with Guy Robb which includes eye opening footage of barbel behaviour beneath the surface that will certainly make you think about your own tactics. Lee Swords who needs no introduction to Northern barbel anglers will give a presentation in his own inimitable style on how he tackles the big rivers, it will be hugely entertaining as well as informative, not to be missed. There will be a vast array of tackle stands in the adjacent hall where you can stock up with everything you could possibly need for the new season. Trefor West, Pete Reading, Peter Wheat, Dave and Kay Stueart and just about anyone who’s anyone in the barbel world will be there on the day and will happily answer any questions you may have. The atmosphere at these events, which have been running for twelve years, is one of great friendship and camaraderie. There will also be bait and rig tutorials, Gary Mills will service your centrepins and then you can learn to Wallis cast from master ‘pin craftsman Chris Lythe. Finally, lots of prizes to win in the mega draw and raffle. All in all, a day not to be missed. And here’s the deal, you can come along as well.
