Following a debate at their AGM in March, the Carp Society Board of Directors voted unanimously at a recent board meeting to reinstate financial support to the SAA (Specialist Anglers’ Association). A contribution of 50p per adult member will be paid to the SAA.

The Carp Society’s decision was welcomed by the SAA Chairman, David Bird: “…it’s great news that The Carp Society is rejoining and wanting to take a more active role within the SAA. I cannot stress strongly enough the need for unity in our sport, at this time.”

The Society’s representative attending SAA meetings will be Elliott Symak, the well-known carp angler and recent addition to the Board of Directors.

The Society will continue its support for the Countryside Alliance alongside the SAA, a move welcomed by Charles Jardine, the CA, Director of Angling and voted for overwhelmingly by the members attending the recent AGM.

The Carp Society fully supports the wider stance on Angling Politics adopted by the Countryside Alliance, and shares the view expressed by Charles Jardine that the SAA is best positioned to tackle any specialist issues that may affect Carp Angling.

The Carp Society believes that by demonstrating support for both the Countryside Alliance and the SAA its members are well represented. Alongside these organizations, the Society supports the pressure group ECHO and is represented at their meetings by Ian Welch, Society Director and RMC’s Angling Manager.

The Society support for these groups also includes free editorial space in its quarterly magazine and free stand space at its prestigious annual two-day Winter Show held at Sandown Park in November.

Carp Society Commercial Manager David Mannall states “These support packages are outward demonstration that we are making significant contribution to the groups politically representing angling. In total our members’ financial and support packages to these groups are worth some £ 5000pa, a figure well worth investing in the future of our sport.”

Membership of the Society is only £ 30 per year and you can join on-line via the Carp Society website at www.thecarpsociety.com.
