ST JOHNS
THE APACHE FINDS HIS HAPPY HUNTING GROUND ON ST JOHNS.

After ten years of trying to catch a thirty plus common Steve Cliff, known as the Apache, has done it at last in grand style. Deciding on a three day visit to St. Johns Lake Steve found the fish ready to feed but not easy to locate as they didn’t appear to be staying in one area for very long. After moving to three different swims with varying results Steve, who has caught many mirror carp over the thirty pound mark, broke through his thirty pound common barrier in great style with a superb fish that weighed spot on 37lb. The fish, a new common carp record for St. Johns, wasn’t the only fish that Steve caught; there were also mirrors of 19.06 21.02 and a 27.04 which was fully scaled. To catch these fish Steve spodded hemp and pellets and fished with Mainline Maple 8 Boilies. Well done Steve!

Mark Ayliffe who was fishing with Steve caught a mirror of 25.02 and a common of 15lb.

HARDWICK LAKE
A 32.06 mirror was caught at the weekend but we do not have details of the angler.

HUNTS CORNER LAKE
Bailiff Mac Mcarthy caught a 19.10 mirror.

OXLEASE LAKE
Sean Pashley who is a bit of a carp catching machine to say the least, caught 31 carp in a 24 hour session over the week end. There were two twenties in the catch all of which were mirrors. Sean who comes from Bedfordshire fished both particle and boilie hook baits over an area at 55 yards range that he had heavily baited with a spod mix.

Brentwood’s James Read fished M8 pop-ups along with pellet filled PVA bags to catch mirrors of 24.04 and 22.10.

James Dicky and Darren Lee both from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire have arrived on the water for a 48 hour session and despite the recent drop in temperature they have started to enjoy action in their first few hours. James has caught a 23lb mirror on a pineapple pop-up over pellet and Darren has caught another on 13.01 on Active 8 over pellet. For both this is their first visit.

Simon Williams from Leeds is fishing with the Frank Warwick Fluoro Corn over heavily spodded hemp and pellet at 75 yards and so far he has caught a mirror of 25.04.

Other carp have been reported caught from around the lake.

Barry O’Connor fished with bright pineapple pop-ups over heavily spodded pellets to catch seven mirrors to just over 14lb. Son, Ben managed one at 14.02.

On just his second visit to the water, Martin Small, who hadn’t caught a carp over 10lb before, was more than delighted when he caught a PB carp of 24lb. To catch the mirror Martin, who is from Oakley, fished a 10ml boilie over spodded pellets.

ELSTOW PIT 1 & 2 (NEAR BEDFORD)
Having checked both Elstow Pit 1 and 2 at the weekend the bailiffs have decided that there is not enough work to be done to warrant a working party this year.

It was reported that three different forties were caught from Pit One in the past week.
