An enjoyable day on a sunny Gt Ouse and all for a really good cause

Last year the match had to be abandoned due to gale force winds making fishing nigh on impossible, but this year it was sunshine all the way with some great fish caught from a river that was in good nick following a few days of heavy rain.

Last Sunday, 30th November, was the 3rd Marie Curie Predator Cup match on the Great Ouse in fenland, ably run by PAC, the Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain.

Jack Satchell with his 20lb pike that, along with a 4lb 7oz zander, gave him the winner’s trophy in the Marie Curie Predator Cup

The day was attended by 85 anglers from across the country and started off at a pace with an 11lb Pike being landed in the first 15 minutes. This was followed by Brian Mumford landing a 16lb pike before lunch, but it was Jack Satchell who won the day and the event with a 20lb Pike.

You’re never too old – 71 year old Brian Lowestoft angler Mumford bagged third place with a 16-pounder

FISHINGmagic
FISHINGmagic was there with a bundle of raffle prizes kindly donated by Realtree and Harrison Advanced rods. The raffle made £ 449.00 which is an incredible amount of money to make on a raffle that averages about £ 5.00 per person of those attending.

The match was fished by anglers of all ages, from a 14 year old local lad to 71 year old Brian Mumford of Lowestoft who managed 3rd place with a pike of 16lbs. We all thought Brian was in with a great chance of winning when he caught the pike early in the match.

But John Watson of March, Cambs netted an 18lb 12oz pike for second place and then Jack Satchell of Burwell, Cambs took first place with a fine specimen pike of 20lbs, a fish that was also the biggest caught in the match, and a zander of 4lb 7oz for a total weight of 24lb 7oz.

Marie Curie Cancer Care
The event was organised to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The Marie Curie Nurses provided a totally free home nursing service to terminally ill people in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their home. The money raised will also help fund the Marie Curie Scientists at the world renowned Research Institute in the quest for cures and treatments for cancer.

In second place was March, Cambs angler John Watson with a pike of 18lb 12oz

Nicky Jackson from Marie Curie Cancer Care said of the day “it was an incredible day, the sun was shining and the fish were biting. It is a wonderful event with the PAC marshalling the event and the Ely Sugar Beet Sports and Social Club donating the waters and the club facilities. So many people give up their time to help us raise money, it is fantastic. Everyone said how much they had enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the 2004 Predator Cup”
