Do any carp anglers out there remember the shilham rollers which were around in the 90’s which were made from a laminate material and available in various sizes?

Well, having spoke to Mark Shilham he tells me is looking to produce them again having shown me a prototype 30mm roller, and he is also talking about maybe going up to 50mm in size which may be of interest to both carp and catfish anglers alike.

Mark informs me they will be made from the same materials as before as he has not found a material that performs any better and they will be available in various sizes but only in the table top version, not the jumbo bait station which some bait rolling companies have and still use today.

I actualy use boiles rolled by Mark using his own base mixes and flavourings but Mark informs me he is also looking at offering a bait rolling service using both Nutrabaits base mixes and flavours as well as a range of his own boilies using his own base mixes and flavours.

Having never rolled my own bait before Mark let me have a go with a 22mm roller, I was amazed how quick the bait could be rolled and the shape of the boilie was spot on. I felt good that I had rolled bait I was going to use. Having used a well known brand for some time I fancied a change so I field tested them for quite a few sessions and had favourable results.

Mark is also looking at selling the air guns and nozzles, Burco’s boiling baskets as he did before. He is currently writing an article about his rollers regarding sizes, price, etc and he tells me he will post it on FishingMagic as he is a member of the site.

The rollers are very well made and very durable. The roller I used was fifteen years old and made good bait, plus there are still rollers out there as some came up on ebay for sale a few months ago and fetched a very good price.

With the Shilham roller you can produce large quantities of boilies in a relativly short time, plus with the high cost of some fresh baits i am more than sure the roller will pay for itself over a period of time.

Some years ago i went with both Mark and Colin Shilham to a carp show in Dunstable were they demonstrated their rollers and I sold them to several anglers with one syndicate buying several sizes of roller, a compressor air gun with nozzles pipework and couplings. Quite a few rollers were sold that day and may still be out there.

Some anglers were a little worried about damaging their rollers but even if the fins got chipped or larger bits broke off the fins they still rolled good quality bait; thats how durable they were and will still be.

At the time of the show I had no interest in carp fishing at all but was asked to help out with the sales side of things but I could see they were a quality item although some anglers quibbled about the price, but I am a strong believer in you get what you pay for and this was and will be the case I am sure with the new

rollers.o all you carp anglers out there keep your eyes peeled for Mark’s article he will be posting soon he tells me. Again speaking with Mark I understand he has already had enquiries regarding the large size rollers but he is currently looking at tooling to see what sizes he can go to without detriment to the rollers strength and performance. I for one will be purchasing a 22mm and 24mm roller when they become available.
