Looking across the Danube to the Hahl factory where TopLine and SF Line are manufactured
TopLine has been around the UK for about 12 months and in that time has enjoyed considerable success with those anglers who have managed to drag themselves away from their favourite brands and tried it.

Inside the Hahl factory and the process begins
That’s one of the things with line, we all develop favourites and are reluctant to leave an old faithful that has served us well for so many years. How often do we hear angler say, “Oh, I’ve used Brand X since I was a lad and it’s never let me down. I’ve got no reason to change.”

Statements like that, about any product, always make me smile. After all, a little Ford Thames van I had over 30 years ago never let me down either, but the Ford Focus TDCi Estate car I have now is so much better!

Hahl GmbH, the manufacturers of TopLine, probably realised they had to break through this attitude when they decided they had to concentrate their efforts on promoting the line – after all, they were already convinced that their line was the best. Now all they had to do was persuade anglers to try it and let the quality of the line would do the rest.

And that’s how yours truly found himself at the Hahl factory, situated on the banks of the river Danube in Germany a few short weeks ago, along with a handful of other UK angling journalists. What better way of promoting a relatively new fishing line than to introduce us to the company and show us the meticulous manufacturing process, right from raw materials, through extrusion, lab testing, quality control, to the finished, spooled product.
