On Monday night Bob Coleman landed what proved to be a new RMCrecord cat of 45lb 14oz from the Horton Boat Pool. Fishing from’Bob’s Swim’ the monster predator took a Monster Crab pop up fishedover 5 kilos of MC boilies, halibut pellets and some home made CarpCompany black squid groundbait at 8.45pm. A titanic battle ensuedwhere his 15 lb braided mainline and 25lb Super Mantis hooklink wastested to their maximum. Some 30 minutes later as the beast was beingpulled over the cord of the waiting landing net the spreader blockdecided to disintegrate. Thankfully fellow Boat Pool member GraemeSchilling was on hand to jump in, grab the net and secure the newrecord cat.
After unsuccessfully trying to weigh the cat by hand a nearby treewas called upon to help. Unfortunately the first chosen limb decidedto sag under the weight so another was chosen. Finally a weight of 4514 was witnessed and the emotion swept through the gathered crowd. The fish had been captured earlier in August at 43-02 and previouslylast season at a top weight of 39lb 8oz. The fish had been stockedinto the Boat Pool in 92/93 at a tiny 5 lb 1oz so is certainlyprospering well in this terrific venue.
Bob has now accounted for three different cats over 45lb thisseason with two being taken from the Boat Pool and the other on avisit to Yateley Match lake. To add to this he has also captured fivefish over thirty pounds from the two venues this season. Even moreimpressive is the fact that these are true British cats that werestocked in the early 90s.
