John Cheetham fished the Bridgewater Canal near Red Browunder-bridge and hit a nest of chub. Fishing worm and caster he hadeight fish to 4-8-0 plus bream and skimmers. Keith Williams landed acracking pike of 23-8-0 from the Oughtrington area on mackerel bait.Decent bream showing to 4lbs plus lots of skimmers to caster.
Ackers Pit is absolutely lifting with fish borne out by the factthat members simply cannot fail to catch. Roach, bream, tench andcarp are taking a wide variety of baits; best overall is maggot, withpaste sorting out the bigger fish. The committee has decided that theuse of trout pellets are no longer allowed on this fishery. Thedecision was taken with the welfare of the fish and invertebrates inmind. Notices will be erected shortly.
Woodshaw Reservoir is fishing well for hybrids, tench, crucians, and a few roach. Caster, corn and maggot best baits.
Cicily Mill Pool is still on top form and producing qualitycatches of tench, bream, crucians, and roach. I snatched a few hourson Friday afternoon with fishing partner Keith Hendry and we bothbagged up on tench , skimmers and crucians, plus I managed to landfour common carp of about 8 to 10lbs apiece, and lost three whichsimply shed the small barbless hook. Bait used was corn and luncheonmeat.
Neil Bather had a personal best tench of 7-8-0 from Grey Mist Meretaken on a boilie. Alan Peters had mirror carp of 11-8-0, 17-0-0, and19-4-0 all taken on his own boilie mix. The committee has decided toextend the use two rods providing that no problems arise.
Sandiway small lake is producing quality tench and roach to cornand maggot fished in the margins. Sport on the large lake has gonequiet with the exception of a report by Ian Timmis of eight bream andsix tench taken on a groundbait feeder. The best bream weighed 10-8-0and the tench averaged 4lbs.
