Frank’s Weekly Fishing Column www.warrington-anglers.org.uk

29th December 2000

As usual there have been only those keenest of keen anglers who havebeen out over the Christmas holiday period. The prize for dedication goes toIan Scott who was out on the Bridgewater Canal to get some of the actionbefore having his Christmas dinner. His excuse was that he was only in hiswife’s way at home and in any case would really appreciate her cooking aftersome fresh air. What is he trying to say? His efforts produced small roachand lots of gudgeon to bread punch.

Jimmy Hays won the Boxing Day match at Walton with the low weight of2-14-0 comprising mainly small roach. The canal is now carrying a lid of ice sochopped worm is the best bet.

Understandably the Trent and Mersey Canal which is for the most partalso iced over has slowed. There should be a reasonable chance of some sport with quality perch from the Lodge Lane area.

Ackers Pit has produced a few roach catches earlier in the week andshould stay clear of ice unless temperatures really drop. Worth a visit if youwant to test out those Christmas presents.

Andy Gill was out on the River Gowy on Boxing Day and fishing just abovethe sluice at the Nags Head had a varied catch. Using a small link of 2BBand letting his double pinkie bait go with the current he had 5 roach, lotsof gudgeon, 3 perch, a skimmer, and 3 trout.

Members at Woodshaw Reservoir are catching lots of small roach to eithersquat or bread punch. New platforms have improved angler comfort at thispopular little fishery.

Prospects at Grey Mist Mere are not brilliant and today, Wednesday, thereis a lid of ice covering the fishery. Despite this one angler was justsetting up his gear as our bailiff made his rounds.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday night for subscriptions, newmembers, or simply call in for a chat and catch up on the news. I can becontacted with your queries and catch reports on 01928 716238 Fax 713898Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk
