I have attached pictures of a Giant freshwater stingray (Himantura Chaophraya) caught last year whilst filming with Jeremy Wade and the Fishsiam team. The Giant freshwater stingray was estimated to weigh 400lb+ and was beaten after a gruelling 40 minute battle. The stingray gave birth to twins shortly after capture and was one of several monster fish landed during a two week expedition to various rivers in Thailand. The monster stingray was caught from the Maeklong River in Samut Songkran province and was caught on a 80lb stand up rod, Okuma multiplier reel coupled with 100lb mainline, 130lb flurocarbon leader with large Owner circle hook and 1 kg weight. The successful bait was a live 2lb snakehead.
River Monsters new series premiers in the US on April 25 2010 and will be shown worldwide later in the year. The show is called ‘Death Ray’.
