I’ve seen this question in many magazines and also on a numbers offorums on the net. So why do we go fishing?
Here’s why I go fishing, and there are many reasons.
- I think its partly being out in the open air in the countryside and forgetting any troubles I may have, but mostly …………..
- Being on the bankside at first light to hear the birds waking up and seeing them fly from their nest in large flocks to start their day hunting for food.
- Watching the resident pair of swans building their nest then, during the season, watching the young grow into the beautiful creatures that had given them life.
- Watching the Kingfisher perched just above the waterline on a branch, patiently waiting for his next meal to swim by.
- Watching the squirrels scampering around and through the trees.
- Sharing lunch with a robin or two that visit you at your swim, or the water vole that pops his head out from the undergrowth at the side, looking for a titbit or two.
- Watching the birds make their way back to their nests and listening to the last chorus as the sun goes down.
- Watching the bats silently winging their way in search of food.
- The owl as it glides past in the hunt of a mouse or two.
- The sounds of movement in the surrounding area – could it be a badger or fox? Maybe catching a glimpse of them as they go on their way.
- Just to be there and watch nature in its raw form, untouched by human hand.
- To me, fishing is more than just catching fish. It is all the above, and more.
- Next time you’re out fishing just take some time to sit back and look around you.
- You’ll be amazed at just what is going on that you know nothing about.
