The weather was nice-ish, and the trip up from Ipswich had taken alittle over the hour. This was to be our first time here since themiddle of last season, and to be honest i was quite looking forwardto it. Having parked the car we walked the 400yds to our chosen swim, that being peg 4 on the Coarse lake. The rods were already made up,so after a small amount of time splashing about with the marker rod,we had both found our little spots to fish to. salmon, caviar andblack pepper boilies on one rod, and Activ-8 on the other, a smallsprinkling of about 15 freebies spread around, and we were setup.

Although it wasn’t hot, it was blindingly sunny, and as any classycarper does, I left my sunglasses at home……..so I sat theirtrying to watch the water and began to strain the old pork pies.Whilst sitting there, I heard the shrill screaming of a Delkim justbehind us. I ran the 20 yds to where it was emanating from and wasjust in time to see a small carp being landed. It weighed 9lb, okayit wasn’t huge but having got into a conversation with the chap, thismade his total catch up to 123lb of carp in an 18 hour period. Notbad, you might say, but all the better when you think he had not hada bite at all during the night. I didn’t see him leave, but it musthave been midday, as he was on a 24 hour ticket and had started at 12the previous day, so I’m not sure of his total catch.

If you have never fished this complex of lakes, it is well worththe time, it is reasonably cheap at £ 6 for 12 hours, and I wouldsay that you are almost on a guarantee to catch something, BUT DONTBASH ME IF YOU DONT. The lakes are very pretty and have log cabinsfor hire. There is a toilet and shower block, a shop on site, andvery helpful staff.
Stumpy and myself ended up with a total of eight carp and twobream. I know, I know, we don’t count the bream, but it was certainlya great day out, and Iwould advise anyone to pay Woodlakes a visit.Whilst none of our carp were huge, all around the 10 to 12 lb mark,we do know that there are some high twenties in the lakes, and I havepersonally seen a 27lb carp come out, so who knows, maybe a30-pounder is on the cards soon.
If you would like to pay them a visit, go to their website at www.woodlakes.com or call Robin,a real nice chap, on 01553 810817 or e-mail him at robin@woodlakes.com.
If you are looking to fish the East Anglian area you could alsovisit my site at http://devoted.to/carping.
All the best and tight lines
