I’ve never had problems with my reel coming off with any of my old Diawa rods (Amorphous Whiskers) however I have had reels falling out with a couple of old 11ft J.W. Avon/Quiver rods however a couple of short sections of bike inner tubes solved this.

As for Cork handles; I much prefer them to duplon both in looks and feel.

I can cope happily with Daiwa sliding reel seats such as on my Whiskers but not the metal ones

Really don't get you lot with this reel's falling off. Simple fix, a ring piece (a third of an inch wide) of racing bike inner tub 27 x 1 1/4. Placed on the far end of the cork butt section. roll it down to the sliding ring when you've put the reel on and lock it up against the sliding ring. So in effect one ring is on the eye side and locked against the Saddle ring cork. The other is locked on by the inner tub ring. The reel's not falling off with this simple fix. On all my butt cork sections I have 6 or more inner tub rings, as they come in handy for a multitude of hacks.

I used sliding ring reel holders for many years and I cannot remember reels falling off. But I have had screw fittings that did not fir the reels.

I had issues with the Roberts reel holders using Shimanos. I was told the were designed for Mitchell 300 reels.
