I have quite a bad back, I'll not do the 'comparison' thing :D as its a competition I don't want to win!

Anyway I use a stray bar but put it high to take the weight of the pole, have my pole accoss my leg with my back straight. I tend to avoid waters where 14m plus is needed due to my back.

It works for me, but do have to listen to my body. I don't think I've helped too much because it sounds like you've already tried what I've suggested unsuccessfully??

Korum do a nice looking pole hook for not much money also. Thinkng of giving that a try myself.
I do set up as per the post above for match fishing and once its all in place it is pretty comfortable, but it can be real hard work getting all that gear to your swim and back again after :(
seriously thinking about how much stuff i actually need to take.

A carp type chair does take some beating for comfort but ive yet to try a long session on the pole without my seatbox and suspect my back would be killing me after. Although it wasnt feeling that great on Sunday after pushing my trolly back to the car.
