Once again, our Thomas Turner valuation day at Sportfish, Reading turned out to be an absolute cracker right from the start!

As usual we had the run of customers waiting outside the gate for our arrival at Sportfish. We officially started at 10am, but started at 9am as customers were waiting. With the help of William our 10 year old son we both ferried various rods and tackle from the car park, up the stairs and into our 1st floor room where Sportfish had kindly already set out tables and chairs for us.

While William put the kettle on, a gentleman who was at the start of the queue at the gate stood in front of me and said that he couldn’t manage in a large Hardy case he had in the car. Back down the stairs we went and carried the large cardboard rectangular case back up to the room. We opened the package carefully and lifted out a large package case, protected by its green velvet bag. Eyes transfixed on what this maybe I pulled out the immaculate, as new, leather case, embossed with the Hardy name, and opened it. It was a fine, mint, limited edition, Hardy CC de France presentation set with all of its papers and certificate’s. Number 87/100! What a start!

The morning continued as it started, not getting that first cuppa until after 11am! But it was well deserved. We steadily bought various lovely items including the below set of limited edition / Anniversary Abu reels to include a very rare gold plated Abu 5000 from a chap who had travelled all the way from Kidderminster!

Rods were next up – around 30 of them to include 13 Hardy rods in their original bags, two of which have their leather Hardy tubes. An unused Hardy 4 piece traveller rod was a great find, with its tags. This is how we like to buy them in – pretty much unused and especially with their shrink wrap and tags! It so nice to see customers talking such good care of their tackle.

A lovely couple brought in some later B James rods, some modern Abu reels and this lovely limited edition Hardy Baby Bougle; again, mint condition with instructions and original box. Beautiful reels that we always love to see.

Hardy reels were in abundance, with some nice examples including Hardy Sirrus, Cascapedias, new Uniquas, all in fine condition with their original bags and or boxes. We also had a nice little collection of various Orvis Battenkill reels and a lovely black Japanned salmon fly case with 6 lift out trays!
