Avon rods

Looking for a three piece Avon style 1.25 or 1.5 tc for chubbing in the new season.
who makes them??

You might be lucky and pick up a Harrison Tryptech, I believe they do them in a 1.5lb t.c., otherwise you have little chance unless someone still makes them with a detachable butt... Daiwa used to amongst others...

I was thinking of Daiwa’s. I have an old Powermesh Avon 1.25lb, a slim blank with a sweet action, but the detachable butt makes it a pain to carry set up. If you’re happy to set up on the bank, used ones aren’t hard to find.

I was lucky to pick up a mint Tryptech from Rib Valley for £40. It was built by Simpsons of Turnford. I think it has a seriously understated test curve it's more like 2lb IMO.

I thought similar when I picked one up Hugh...
I have a Bob James barbel rod by Normark, 1.25lb t.c. and an Insight both with three piece, detachable butt's...

There used to be a Greys Prodigy barbel 1.5lb tc rod with both standard Avon tip and quiver tip included. I was given one a few years ago and have had many barbel and chub using it. Although I have 2-piece quiver tip rods with a slightly better feel, the Greys is the rod I most often have with me simply because that 3-piece format is so much easier to pack.

Seems there are plenty of choices of feeder rods in 3-piece but Avon style rods are rare.

I have a Diawa Sensor Z which is an 11foot 1.25 Avon in 3 parts but they are unequal lengths with a detachable butt which is a total pain.

Why do you need it in 3 parts ....guessing its to fit in the boot of a car ?

Another option is some of the travel rods, I also have an ABU diplomat (original version) which while its classed as a "spinning rod" seems to be well suited to Chub to me and breaks down small. They did/do quite a few lengths / versions.

The only reason it's a pain to you Philip(and to me in the main) is because you want the rod made up, it's become the way of modern angling, it makes it quicker to start and pack away, but some anglers only fish day sessions and are quite happy setting up on the bank, add to that they may have a rod holdall where they don't want six inches of rod tube sticking out, not zipped in, I am fortunate as I prefer 11ft Avon/barbel rods, but many like 12's and two six foot plus sections maybe two rods is a lump too far, who knows...

I carry my 2 piece 12ft Avon/barbel/carp rods in a rod quiver ready made up; with them safely stored in their own rod sleeves on the outside of the Rod quiver. However If I’m using a more delicate rod or Im using a 3 piece rod then it will be stored safely in a tube in the inside section of my rod quiver.

I haven’t used my rod bag for years now.

However I can fully understand someone with reduced car boot space would prefer to use 3 piece rods because of their lack of space.

I have 2 in the garage/tackle shop. Never found the detachable butt or the sliding reel fittings a problem. I just took the spool off the reel and tucked it in the quiver pocket.
