Line is a very personal thing. I read many recommendations for Daiwa Sensor but I hate the stuff. I tend to use Maxima in 8lb or less for my general coarse fishing and Fox Soft Steel in 8lb and above for barbelling and carping. In certain situations I'll use braid (Power Pro) when necessary but don't use it unless I feel I have to. I've read plenty of people complain about both Maxima and Soft Steel but it doesn't put me off one jot.

I have to go with the Maxima fold...

I've no doubt we have many good quality lines to choose from for general and specialist applications but for reliability and availability IMHO it cannot be bettered.

Be it trotting for roach with 3lb BS or carping with 12lb BS I stick with it although I admit I haven't tried anything different this year........but then why change a winning formulea that works...

I totaly agree about Sensor. Tried it once, straight to the bin.I used Maxima for many years and was perfectly content with it but I did not/do not like the colour and its tendency to go a bit "crinkly" after a while. I found & switched to Pro Gold years ago and though I've had the odd affair with other lines we are still together.

I'm struggling to find Pro Gold in my local tackle shops
Pro Gold is a funny product re suppliers. Some shops sell loads of it and therefore stock all bs of it and others don't sell enough to warrent stocking any. The last lot I got, i bought on line for the same reasons you describe. It is worth the effort though Paul. It is simply one of the best lines on the market.
The pro Clear is slightly thicker for the same bs than the pro gold.

Thank you Ray.I expected no less.

I am not unlike mono actually.....I,too,am prone to deteriorate with age and prolonged exposure to sunlight. I do indeed go crinkly after a bit of use but am quite abrasion resistant and not prone to snapping under pressure.I am also reliable, cheap, knot well,a good colour and widely available for the asking.

Back to PG. As Toddy says it is one of the best lines out there [the best IMO] and its been around for ages too. The only way its could be improved IMO would be if it was clear....Pro Clear is not the same stuff and is not available in as wide a range of diameters/bs. Its good too...but not as good as PG.

BTW for TFG Gunsmoke Mono read Pro Gold. Its the same line.

I think everyone struggles to buy Pro-Gold Mark and the few local shops that do stock never seem to go below 8lb. I’ve given up looking, and have been ordering from the net for some years.

Is that fact or just looks the same??
I ask because like Lord Paul, I often struggle to find it locally.

I was told that by someone in the trade and I have no reason to doubt what he said. I asked if he meant similar ? No...the same is what he said.

Slightly different colour IMO but apparently the same line.

Daiwa Sensor is getting rubbished pretty badly here. I fish mostly venues laden with weed and mussel beds. (DCAC waters and FDAC waters) Daiwa Sensor at 18lb is the ONLY line id even consider. Its highly abrasion resistant and will cut through even the toughest of weed beds when a mighty ole carp goes off on one. I consider the presentation from the line to be adequate if fished in conjuntion with a leadcore.

I also find its a good price, casts well if you need to get to range and doesnt have horrendous memory.

I know its probably not suited to some clean bottoms and less challenging waters but for the places Im fishing its a perfect fit.

Horses for courses so to speak.

I would never rubbish Daiwa Sensor. For the money it's one of the best lines around and I have been using it for years. At 7 quid for 1300 meters in some strengths you can't go wrong.

The only problem I have with Sensor is that for some kinds of fishing it's a bit springy and I would like to see it in a matt, clear colour.

I've said I hate it and maybe one or two others. Novel, as usually it's held up as perfect while many other well used lines are dismissed as rubbish. I did say in my original post that many folks love Sensor. The fact that I hate the stuff and don't understand why it's liked is neither here nor there in the overall scheme of things, but it's still the truth as far as I'm concerned. As I also stated in my original post, line is a very personal thing. No one is right or wrong, just differing opinions and expectations of their line.

I've not heard many people mention Korum line or Drennan Specimen, are they just no good or just not popular ?
