It could only happen in Donny,no mention of keepnets or barbless hooks:

ANY MEMBER TAKING A GUN OR ANY OTHER LIKE WEAPON ON THE BANKS OF THE ASSOCIATION?S WATERS WILL BE SEVERELY DEALT WITH.

BY EVERY MEANS IN YOUR POWER PROTECT YOUR FISHING RIGHTS.

Presumeably however we would prefer it if you didn't shoot the pikies or we will have to deal with you severely?

The Doncaster AA site does not state the size of the fish, it says that its a large barbel. For the river Don there is no doubt that it is a large specimen irrespective of its weight.
I only know of one 10lb+ barbel from the Don that I believe to be factual, but there are also a lot of discreet fishermen the same as anywhere else who prefer to keep quiet.
Don't forget its not long since the water at Sprotborough (and almost everywhere else) was too frothy and scummy to be seen, never mind fished.
Also about 4 years ago we had a serious amount of water flooding through which I believe lost many established fish to the lower maybe even the tidal stretches. Even now the big bream (5lb+ fish) are a rare sight at the back of the prison and the barbel population has not recovered to the previous stocking density.

hope that it doesnt take long phil.as its a local haunt for a lot of anglers it would be a shame to lose these anglers to hayfield.

Dan, I'm still hoping for a 10lb+ fish myself this year from the Don and am convinced (maybe foolishly) that the pollution did'nt get below Sprotborough with enough strength to cause too many problems.

PHIL I LIKE YOU ONLY HOPE THAT THE DAMB POLLUTION HASNT KILLED OF THE STOCKS OF CARP AND BARBEL THAT WERE THERE! but lots of adult fish have been killed ....
its not good i for one would like to know what steps are in place to stop this event happening (sewage) and what the environment agency and council are gonna do about it .
i am gonna have a session between sprotty and doncatraz at some point in the future and see what has happend.
hope that the polution was desolved before it got to doncatraz but we will have to see what the knock on effect will be.
good look hope you get a nice fish if you decide to go.
