Now I haven't disappeared, although some of you will have been relieved not to have been exposed to my ramblings for a while.
Since Xmas so many things been happening to keep me busy including bad family news.

The other side of the coin is I've been busy completing those jobs round the house as I'm on the move (when I get a buyer). I've been lucky enough to have got a job in Dorset starting in a couple of months.

Can anyone give me a little information on where I can cast a line when (if - have you seen the house prices?) I get there.
I'm thinking about the Stour area, possibly outside Bournemouth & Poole. With Chesil Beach & Poole harbour the sea fishing should be good but how about the fresh?

Oh David.....

welcome to the best course fishing counties in the country.

The Stour, Avon and Frome.
The Test and Itchen.
Chub so big that anything under 6 isn't weighed.
So many barbel, that fish under 10 are shaken off the hook.

and then the lakes.....
Gravel pits everywhere.
So many double figure tench that it gets boring.
40lb+ carp in every other lake.
(not that many big bream though)

When you move down, we'll have to meet up and we can go into more detail.

New 3 beds are going for about 175k at present.

I think that Carp Angler is understating it a bit! I moved down here (Hampshire) four years ago from Gods country (North Riding of Yorkshire) whilst the rivers up north become fishable quicker after heavy rain the fishing down here is fantastic, more places to fish that you could ever get Brownie points for.
My advice is to move down here without the family, even then you'll never fish all the good spots.

I'd say Norfolk, but then I would.

Chris, where is Norfolk, is it that place thats slowly sinking into the mud? Hampshire & Dorset just have to be the best counties for fishing if not the cheapest for houses, or to fish.

Interesting perspective Mike. It's true much of the land round here used to be underwater and most of it's 20ft below sea level.

But we have the Fen drains - miles and miles of waterways, ranging from little land drains to great sheets of water like the Relief CChannel.

Then there are the great lowland rivers - the Ouse, Cam, Nene etc. The lower ouse is 60yds wide and 30ft deep at the bottom end.

Then there are the fast flowing tribs like the Little Ouse, Nar and Wissey.

Then the great gravel pits.

Then the Majestic broadland tidal rivers - the Bure and the Yare.

The reedy, brooding Thurne.

The broads.

The marsh creeks.

If he buys around B/mouth or Poole then that isn't in the NFDC area.
It a bit of 'after the horse has bolted'
House prices have shot up around here.

I agreed on my house in the September but didn't move in until December, in those 3 months a house a few doors away was for sale at ?50k more than what I paid.

Fred, would NHS class as an outsider? I couldn't afford New Forest & it's a bit far out. Although I'm a specialist nurse, I'm still a nurse so the bank manager doesn't call me sir.

Between you & me I'm thinking of a place @ 15 miles out of Bournemouth/Poole.

I will be based both in B & P & will commute. We don't want to move from 1 built up area to another. I'm not saying where, in case Graham gets out his amazing wad & buys the town up.

Prices went up 50% in Dorset from what I heard last year. I'm helped a little by moving from Greater London but I fear I'll be having to do a bit of touting round the sailors in Southampton come the weekends?????

Now although C.A. has wet my whistle I like fishing in the Lakes. It's not just the fishing (which can be hard) but the atmosphere - when there's no-one else there??????
I feel totally at peace when in midweek Sept drifting on Windermere, the other boats off the water & that moment when the wind drops & the water goes flat. Glass of wine or whisky......

Best fishing - I would go for Dorset (or anywhere near and around Bournemouth (and I live in Kent). Mind you Carp ?175k for a new 3 bed?? We start at around ?225k - ?250k, all for the "benefit" of living near London. My wife and I have agreed, once the children are out of school we are Dorset bound (dont worry, its another 10 years yet).

I have been here in Bournemouth for 12 yewrs now and have been holidaying and fishing down this way since the 60.s and would NEVER be able to find a more varied amount of fishing in a 30 mile radius in the country!If you find the house prices prohibitive there are ways around this if you are willing to forego a few amenities. I am talking of course about those areas like Turlin Moor (poole), Townsend (bournemouth) and of course our lovely "resort within a resort" Boscombe! House prices to die for(literally). Gypsy, last weekend did the tour. Have seen Turlin, Townsend & stayed in Boscombe. Turlin does have lovely views of the sea!

Glad to hear you enjoyed our delightful areas. Did you know when in Turlin you were less than a mile from a Carp water with fish to 30+, virtually unknown outside the area? Next time your in the bournemouth area give us an e=mail and i'll show you the better places to drink in the town.

As you can guess the drinking & fishing are taking a bit of a back seat at present what with baby, job & trying to move.

Looks like I'll have to do a bit of wheeling & dealing to get my 'priorities' in order.

Hello mate, how you been? Bit of a grey area on this one.Due to problems with the locals and aggro with the sssi on the far bank it was mooted that perhaps a club should look after it but nothing came of it.Then the council were going to run it like HATCH, because they found out where the fish were "stocked" from, but again no one seemed to do anything. The last time i spoke to them they had no plans to charge for fishing it but also could not tell me how (or who) it would be controlled (by). Shame really, as it was the first lake i fished in 90' when i first moved here i caught from and holds many happy memories for me. P.S. Carptalk last week under a picture of a carp from Hatch, "No carp in this lake"!!!!! A few photo albums i know of could disprove that one i think. OH the joys of naievete. More Investigation please guys. If you need to know about our lakes try big Rich,Rik,Simmo or any number of the guys who fish this area who are known to you!

Funny that Dave, as an estate agent was telling me only the other day how Turlin was a bit of a 'steal', the locals were well behaved & cos some of it overlooked the sea would be worth a couple of quid in a few years.
As I walked out of the door her nose poked me in the back of the neck!
