Sufix Invisiline fluorocarbon, been using 4lb this winter while chubbing. I've been using Drennan microbraid when after barbel. As for hooks, because I've been fishing bread and paste while after chub, Drenan SS hooks have been fine. I've been using sizes 4-6 and the bread or paste moulds around the hook really well.

BN, whatever hooklength material you go for check them out, i use a hook pull, you may have to change your idea on knots, some of the new materials are very slippy, it will show up just when you don't want it to!!

Hook lengths, usually a braid, Silkworm in 6, 8 or 10. That is if fishing on the bottom.

If float fishing, then Daiwa Sensor - cheap and cheerful! - usually 4, 6 or 8.

Hooks ?? - for big baits, either Fox series 2b, sizes 4, 6 or 8 - or for even bigger baits, Nash Fang in 2 or 4.

For maggot/caster, usually Drennan Super Specialist, 10,12,14.

For Barbel in the UK I used Silkworm. For Chub I used Drennen double strength as a hooklength but I think there is better low diameter mono's around now.

Hooks are DSS for Barbel, for Chub I preferred the Drennen specialists (think they are called that) which where a bit lighter.

mmm Food for thought.... I'm happy with my hooks, but think a different hook length material would do me good...... Ponder ponder..

Sad to say but I use 8lb Merlin. The price is disgusting but it lasts well adn seems to work. Obviosly I use normmal line for my Hook length for "normal" fishing but I'm going to use Merlin when I go a chubbing next weekend simply because I'm targeting big fish from a flooded snaggy river. Actualy if I'm going to get snags I might use normal line

Does anyone know where I can get horsehair without galls or scabs?

I generally use silkworm braid for my barbel fishing with meat baits.

For more general fishing, including for chub and big perch, I have been using the Ultima Omega in 2, 4 and 6 pound strengths. Bit of a pain to tie good knots, but it is very thin for its b.s. and hasn't let me down yet.

I think a phrase concerning kettles and black pots has just come to mind. Just ripe coming from you, the king of blankers. Twelve on the bonk if I remember correctly?

I am on silkworm for barbel, coupled to 8lb maxima mainline and 4lb maxima straight thru for chub. I stick to Drennan super specialists cos they never...ever let you down-14's for caster and up to 4's for bread flake/crust. Incidentally, I have been hair-rigging meat for barbel this season and seem to have got more bites and better bites using a 12, which is smaller than i usually use. Any comments?
Have been rigging those awful slippy get oil everywhere 'fishybites'-talk about keeping your reel well greased!!!!!
