I only remember the lovely tench! Oh and the carp I released having forgotten I was using a keep net for once! A lovely lake and I'm glad it's reopened.

Had a most odd day at Bedford yesterday, decided to fish a waggler, hoping I'd pick up one of the chub that lurk there(after I caught one last week),it was around 10ft deep so I fished with 2 no.10's evenly spaced between a 2 no'6 bulk which was 3 & a half feet from the bottom, well I fed around a dozen reds a chuck to start and after around half an hour I got a complete run through the slowish swim(due to scullers)and caught a dace, after a few hours I'd amassed the brand total of nine dace to five ounces,I decided to go on the feeder and first chuck had another reasonable dace, then as if by magic the roach decided to bite and I had nine to eight ounces and missed loads of bites, which pulled the one ounce tip round like chub bites, often ripping the two reds off the hook completely,or turning them into socks...

I had a day wagglering with dead reds and prawns yesterday on my res.
Its funny that the "nusance" fish take on a greater value when temperatures drop and bites have to be won.

I had rudd and a few roach and perch on the dead reds and two bigger perch on the rigged prawn.
A nice net of fish in a bitterly East wind.

Fished a match in Essex yesterday, out of 21 pegs I drew the graveyard swim. Ended up with 2:14 of small skimmers and roach. Bloody hard work on the pole at 14m. The other side of the lake was black with skimmers and bream where they had 50-60lb nets. Some you win some you don’t...

Today I didn’t fancy the club fixture on the river Thame so I stayed local. Took the stick floats down the Colne in Ricky..
Started off trotting flake on this peg which is usually good for a chub.

Didn’t get a touch, even when I changed to maggots so after 2 hours trying I moved downstream. Much narrower here but fairly shallow. Still no colour to the water so I concealed myself behind a bush.

Just trotted maggots down the middle and it was bites immediately, chublets, dace and perch.
As the light began to fade some of the bigger dace showed up along with some roach.

Having treated myself to some rolled carbon last week I was chomping at the bit to test it out. I had some maggots I got a couple of weeks ago and they were still ok so that was it, I was on my way to test the new carbon. On arrival the bankings were a bit steep side for clambering up and down when you're not sure if you've torn a muscle or tendon in your calf, so I had no intentions of moving once I got down into the swim
The carbon stick was nice to use, good for casting, good for controlling the line and good for playing fish, so all good :).
I had fish from the off and mixed amongst them where some huge dace!
At one point a cormorant swim up and surface about 5yds behind me, it went into shock mode when it spotted me, lol.
Even though I fished for less than 2hrs I caught a lot of fish with chub to over 4lb and dace to...I really wouldn't like to hazard a guess!
It was a very awkward place to take a picture and at one stage wasn't going to bother, however, I managed to keep a few fish in the net head twice after five minuites of fishing each time to get a couple of pic's just for the post.

I'm pretty sure I know which it is, but is it the Tournament RS or the Tournament Pro Match (both current rods)? As ever, the way Daiwa names rods is a great aid to confusion!

It's the RS PF Chris. As you know I wasn't happy with my 14ft model for various reasons but after ussing it for a while it's sort of grown on me and so I though sod it, and I got the 13ft version to complement it.
I enjoyed using it today but I need to get some good sized barbel on it to test it's metal properly.

I've heard that old chestnut before but I only remove it when it gets a bit unsightly or goes baggy round the edges. Never had any mould on the corks through it, evem when i've been out in hissing down rain and water has got under it. I just leave the rod out the bag to air out :).

I can't wait to remove it! What's the point of a lovely warm cork handle covered in plastic!!! :)

Your New rod or Avenger; which do you like best?
