The unseasonably warm March weather has woken up the Cheshire carp earlier than usual...

A little session on the canal today, fishing worms in the same spot where the big Perch came from last week. Alas, no big Perch this time around but plenty of little ones sending the float under, and a nice bonus Roach. The canal has been kind to me in the last year or so, it truly has

Spent a couple of hours on the canal this afternoon, the last nice day weather wise this week. I was joined by Neil1970 who deftly twitched his litte lures while I chucked a maggot feeder around.

Neil hooked and promptly lost a fish first Chuck ….

After 2 hours we were both blanking and Neil had to go. I fished on and hit the only proper bite on my half ounce quivertip, a small dace took my double red maggot.

Yesterday and today were spent at the local canal feeder reservoir after pike before the forecast snow turns up.
Thick fog yesterday, no wind. The fog cleared about 9.30am revealing a clear blue sky and blazing sunshine - very nice but did nothing for the fishing with just a mackerel tail picked up and dropped but a blank was saved by getting two jacks about 2lb each on a silver toby type lure.
Packed up about 1pm as it was too hot dressed in the winter thermal gear.
Today, not so thick fog and a cold NE breeze so up with brolly as a windbreak, three deadbait rods set up, sit back and wait. Had a run on mackerel tail with a jack about 4lb responsible, put the head section on and had another jack which went 6lb 9oz. When the breeze eased had two more even smaller jacks on the lure rod and had a double figure pike miss two different lures right under my feet.
Had a run on the sprat single hook rig which felt bigger but fell off leaving the sprat on the hook which was puzzling.
Passed the time feeding robins with it being colder, a kingfisher kept searching for its breakfast, the buzzards and kites of yesterday seemed to have been grounded as it was still misty at 1.30pm when I packed up.

Back on usual fishery today, there at 7,00am due to large number of road works, picked a swim on far back which had the wind behind me, this swim is usually good in an east wind and it didn’t disappoint today, had a ten pound carp within minutes, followed by a five pounder not long after on the sleeper rod in the margin, but nothing else on this rod for the rest of the day.

Fished the pole over ground bait and chopped worm, with either half a worm or a couple of maggots for bait, started catching skimmers for a start plus the odd tench and Ide plus a couple of F1s, caught steadily through the day till about three pm, when it tailed off, so quick photo of the tench and silvers separately, with an F1 in with the tench, ten tench in total, plus the silvers, and another ten pound carp on the pole later, so a good day, probably be the only time I get out this week as it’s to go a lot colder, still I’m pleased with today’s catch an enjoyable day out.

Had a day on a club /commercial concession yesterday, a place @mikench and I have fished many times. Glorious day early on if a little chilly first thing but it soon warmed up. Settled down picking small Roach up around 18" off bottom in about 6'.

Not frantic fishing, felt like I had to work for every one. Managed 8 Roach to about 5oz and three skimmers.

Certainly felt that cold front moving in about 3:30, had to put my coat back on. Not much wildlife unless you consider two mares kicking the proverbial out of each other wild.

Very cold up on the Wolds. Hail then sun then hail again. Northerly wind. However wrapped up warm behind a brolly was OK.
I fished a deep small easy pool under my feet with my Pit Bull margin pole (Silly name). Not so easy in the cold though.
I had half a dozen carp to 8 ish on mostly bread flake.
One or two came to one of those banded CHOCOLATE ORANGE hard pellets I read about somewhere a short time ago. Might have been on here?
I think they will be very good when it warms a bit.

I returned last weekend from an enjoying 3 weeks holiday in Costa Rica. Whilst there my son in law booked us a day's fly fishing with a guide on a fast flowing stream near Chirripo. It's many years since a tried my hand at "fluff chucking" my casting resembled the worst of England's bowling eg all over the place. Despite our guides best effort we struggled to catch. My son is law who hadn't fished before enjoyed the experience and is talking about having casting lessons. Having not fished in the UK for a month I was looking forward to getting out on the banks last week. One of my targets for last season was a 20lb gravel pit pike. I fell just short on Wednesday with a fish of 19lb 12oz this was backed up with fish of 17lb 7oz and 10lb plus three jack's. The morning in question was misty and fairly mild all of the action came in the morning. It rained in the afternoon the cold NE wind got up and the temperature dropped the change in the weather put a halt to the action. All the the fish came out on either Mackeral Tail fished on the bottom or Roach mounted on a sunken paternoster.

Couple of hours out on a park lake this morning. Absolutely freezing. Way too cold to be fun - some nice roach and a couple of skimmers, but as the cold seeped into my bones I went through the shivering and into the shuddering stage. Trees prevented the sun reaching the pond and even at 10:00 when I gave up I was still freezing. Yet up in the car park it was balmy.

Bit like that round here - was almost t-shirt weather with the sun on you, but as soon as it went behind a cloud it felt like January.

Very mild today if somewhat windy. I chose a club lake where I could shelter behind a steep bank.
On the float and pin/breadflake again.
Two commons one a double and 5 F1s which are growing. I never thought F1s grew much but these were pushing 5lb ish.

Its very remote and seldom bailifed . Myself and another member picked up a stack of empty beer bottles and larger cans.
I doubt it was members as we are all of vintage years and I hope who know better.

Back on the Wolds to my almost private fishery. The only person I saw was the farmer who stopped for a chat with his two enormous dogs. Boerboels I think he said. Fierce looking but a soft as you know what.

I used a small hybrid feeder and groundbait with one of those chocolate orange dumbells. I had 6 carp, biggest a low double and a chub.
The wind was ferocious again and the brolly just coped.
