Vlad was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and started fishing in his childhood with the help of his Uncle and Grandpa. He started VR DESIGN Mechanical Design and Manufacturing back in August 2000. Prior to this, he has an impressive CV of skills and experience in the fields of mechanical engineering and helicopter design. He has previously worked for several world-renowned UK and American fishing companies as a reel designer. This includes the famous Hardy brand where Vlad worked on the Titanium Zane model.
For the last twenty years, as VR Reels, he has been designing and making fine fly reels, combining his long experience as a former aerospace engineer with a passion for fly fishing. He has designed over 30 different models of reels from small 2 ¼” trout classics to huge 5 ½” super modern disc drag reels capable of subduing a shark.
Their range extends from a simple traditional Click & Pawl design drag to a very complicated, fully sealed, cutting-edge carbon fibre drag system!
Vlad’s reputation has been built on delivering beautiful, innovative, and high-end products that assist an angler, not only while fishing but are also pieces of art on your shelf or in a collector’s cabinet!
His inspiration comes from doing what he loves and what he can do best, nature, fishing, history, and aviation history. An example of this, is when he combined his passions into a series of Spitfire and Avro Lancaster reels.
VR reels have rigorous field testing. The reels are sent out to a number of anglers, dealers, guides, or good customers to get their opinion. Vlad also reaches out to anglers for their opinions on a number of fly-fishing forums etc. The received feedback from all these sources has been a great asset in improving and perfecting the VR reels.
Thomas Turner is proud to be working with Vlad and assisting him in bringing his fantastic reels to the UK market. We begin with the Trutta Perfetta Aluminium fly reels in 3” and 2 ¾” sizes. Support for Ukraine
Vladimir Rachenko was born in Ukraine and as part of our partnership, Thomas Turner will be donating £10 of each VR reel sold to The Prytula Foundation.
Serhiy Prytula has been helping the army as a private volunteer since Russia began its occupation of Crimea and Donbas. At first, he helped with equipment, armour, and food. Subsequently, he began to provide units with high-precision equipment, drones, and equipment for command posts.
In 2020, during the pandemic, Serhiy created a Charitable Fund for non-military assistance, which was headed by Anna Gvozdyar. At the same time, Serhiy continued to help the army as a private individual.
In February 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion, the foundation immediately expanded: opening a military headquarters to help the military and a humanitarian headquarters for civilians.
