Modest but times are hard and a very desirable item for me.

I've had PDF versions of the Hardy Specialist & Specimen Coarse catalogues for a few years now but the paper based versions have always been like hens teeth and have managed to evade me...

Looking forward to receiving it, after all I have or have had most of the stuff in it at one time or another :ROFLMAO:

Still the 2008 version on the bay if anyone's interested...

I have also treated myself. I have given myself a director's bonus based on another successful year exterminating moles. If Carling did fixed spool reels the one that I have just ordered is what they would have made.

I am always treating myself or Er indoors so Christmas is no different. At the moment I cannot think of anything I want.😉

Nice, I hope you enjoy using it Clive. I had a couple of Cardinals with worm drive and they were excellent, except for bail arm springs, which had a tendency to break. Not a problem with this reel though as it has coil springs.

I always coveted the Cardinal reels when I was younger and they were always just out of my reach I bought a couple (c4 & c5) about twenty years or so ago at a boot sale for very little and used them for a couple of years. I bought them just to scratch an itch really but they were still very useable reels and tough as old boots.

I had an uncle who took me sea fishing when I was young and he had some ABU multiplier reels that were top of the tree. The one he used for boat fishing actually changed gear when it was loaded, this was very sophisticated for that time. His beach reel had a centrifugal brake which made casting a doddle compared to the Mitchel 600 which I used and which had no brakes at all.

The Suveran must be one of the last top quality reels ABU produced, as all the later reels that I bought from them have been awfully unreliable.

Yes Ray, the ABU range has deteriorated since they moved production to the Far East. I have an old 506 that I bought new in the 1970's, another mint one bought more recently and a couple of Cardinals from the same decade. The Suveran was ABU's last fixed spool to have been made in Sweden. Now only their multipliers are made there. This reel has been sat in a box unused for 20 years. Time to unleash it.
