You may recall that earlier this year we purchased a large collection of new (old shop stock) Hardy reels. These reels were acquired from a seller who had previously purchased them from the Braddell tackle shop in Belfast around 2001.

Joseph Braddell & Sons, a gunmakers’ and fishing rod and tackle supplier, had been in business for more than 200 years, but, unfortunately, their premises on North Street, Belfast, where they had traded since 1975, was badly damaged in a fire in December 2014. The business ended trading there.

This collection included a selection of Hardy MLA reels and a customer of ours purchased one of the MLA 400s from our Belfast Collection. It was to return to Belfast!

The customer had seen his friend fishing one of these lovely reels and had admired it. Given the opportunity to fish with it, he then had to have one. So he approached TT, purchased the reel and was asked that when he goes fishing with the reel, that he could please send us some images.

A few weeks later, two ‘old school’ 35mm colour prints arrived in the post, showing his reel, No.199 and the fish.

Fishing the River Moy, Co Mayo on the 10th May at 09.27am. With his third cast, he hooked and landed this 13lb bar of silver salmon on a small conehead fly. The fish was photographed and then released.

We have a few MLA reels left in stock, click here to take a look and treat yourself to a masterpiece of engineering excellence!

We can’t guarantee that you will catch fish with any tackle you buy from us, but you will certainly have a great time using our high quality tackle!! But if you do catch one, then please send us some photos!
