record breaker

A fish itself cannot hold the record simply by being the biggest fish of that species caught.

Examplesof the largest fish being rejected include the Barbel record claim that was thrown out because the captor at one point in the fight handed the rod to another angler, the record white shark the largest fish ever caught on rod and line that was thrown out because the angler was using whale meat and Tommy Hancock's Pike which has been in and out of the record lists several times because he was gorge fishing. The fish is a record only if the captor caught it according to the rules.

One of the nice things about this Chub is that it is not obese just a huge framed Chub that by the looks of it is in pretty good nick.

Yes it's a lovely looking fish, no doubt about that. And I fully respect the captors comments about the fish. He was after carp at the time.

However to some, it may make him the greatest chub angler of all time.

Would you buy his book on chub fishing assuming this is the only big chub he has ever caught?

It's still a record though Ron!!!!

The fact that he wern't after it is neither here nor there, It's a record!

If he chooses to record it then it has to go into the books.

For those anglers who aspire to a record (and there are quite a few) why not let them have the weights to aim at????

If a record is not recorded by weight, then how is it done then?

Just in case there's some confusion about what I said: records are about the fish; about recording history. But it is the angler who has set the record.

Surely its the WEIGHT of the fish that sets the record -- if that same fish only weighed 2 lbs it wouldn't be a record ....

I give up after this: The angler sets the record with a fish that weighs more than the current record at the time.

Who cares who holds what bit (ooer)....

Fact is the fish has been caught at a record weight on rod and line. Whether the captor claims it or not doesn't change the fact that it happened, only whether it appears on an 'official' or 'unofficial' list.

For the record fish list to maintain any credibility the captor must make the claim whatever he feels about the merits of the capture. After all these are only personal opinions. The weight and means of capture of the fish are hard facts, which is all that is being recorded. It was caught on rod and line, what kind is irrelevent. Who remembers what tackle caught other records?

We'll agree to disagree on a few minor points. Wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all agreed about everything.

The chub was a record and that's that.

I assume the captor could ask the BRFC to leave his name off the list

Record Breaker,
If you're the tallest, the smallest,
If you're the fattest, the thinest, if you always win it,
Your the fastest, the slowest, if you really go,
Then you're a record breaker, a record maker,
You're a record breaker.

If you're the best, the worst, longest immersed,
If you're the base, the ace, furthest in space,
If you can score, more, that a herbivore,
Then you're a record breaker, you're a record maker,
You're a record breaker.

If you can fly like a bird,
If you can play the highest note, ever heard,
If you could swim the Atlantic,
Then the records, mmm, they would go frantic.

If you're the rarest, the fairest, grown the longest hair,
If you're oldest, the boldest, got the most gold,
If you're the newest, the fewest, largest tattoo,
Then you're a record breaker, you're a record maker,
You're a record breaker.

If you could lift, twenty tonnes,
If you could score, ninety-nine thousand runs,
The whole sporting world, would applaud it,
The McWhirters, mmm, they would record it.

If you're the wildest, the mildest, cleverest child,
If you're the strongest, longest, never been wrong,
If you're the latest, the greatest, then you can state,
That you're a record breaker, you're a record maker,
You're a record breaker.
