Am in the process of looking for a fixed spool beachcaster, I have heard these are good value for money and I have read a good review here and there, anybody got one?
about 35 quid from veals already got a 6500 mag elite to go with it.
not that often i.e. every day on holiday 14 times and a few in between.
i only tend to sea fish while on holiday.
I bought a Ron Thompson G-force back in the summer and an Okuma pro fixed spool reel to go with it.
Unfortunately I can't comment on its casting potential as I'm having some difficulty mastering beach casting - it certainly takes an effort to load it - I hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those "re-ringed multiplier rods" I've read about recently. More likely my incompetence.
I'm hoping to try it out on the Bristol Channel cod over the next few weeks in conjunction with a bit of coaching from my brother so I may have more to say about it then.
It seems well-made, but I can't quite say the same for the reel which very quickly developed a groove in the bale arm in which the line catches - so anyone buying one should probably have some emery paper handy ...
michael you say your superior rod is crap, why?
i just brought one and it seems ok to me, strong, not to heavy and it feels like it will take some stick(it will from me any way)
if it's any help I also have the 11 foot "Specialist Bass" rod which I've used quite a lot this year. The quality of the whippings isn't quite up to that of the G-Force, but it's a nice rod all the same.
Caught a pollack on it on Sunday.
Jeremy, cheers for that, i've already brought the superior with reel for ?30.
the only reason i asked is that to me a rod is a rod, be it cheap or expensive, and i just wanted to know how a rod can be crap.
the superior beach caster is bad .
A, because the end guide on mine has corroded away and become sharp therefore drastically reducing the chances of me landing a big fish.
B,its too stiff.i prefer the thinner beach casters.
C,the joint is a pain to take apart when folding it up.
i can get the distance with one but i've never got the space to really hit it hard, every time i've used it there's been loads of people about.
oh for a nice empty beach to really give it a bang.
there's not many of em round oxford though.
you dont need a lot of room, the way i was told was to stand facing the sea, set your self up in this order you lead, rod tip, cast out normally.
the reason being it loads the rod quicker, i tried casting like this for the 1st time on monday evening and was able to cast a lot further.
i don't like doing a full pendulum if there's someone within about 30 yards, for their sake as much as mine.
i did try it out in the field by my house while i was setting up my multiplier but you can only really get 2 casts before a 5oz lead begins to look like a banana
