The contribution made by Simon to this forum should be recognised and celebrated by the members who knew him, fished with him and have posted on his threads. I would like to propose a fish-in to commemorate his life, as has been done for others on this and 'related' forums in the past. Spoken to Barbelboi, and would welcome the thoughts of "Expat", Skippy, Neil 1970 and Ray Roberts who knew Simon better than me. Love to do the Itchen again but Clattercote or Boddington would be more accessible to most members. Technically, it should be a match, but I don't think the forum has anyone who possesses the weigh-in scales, please prove me wrong.

Yes Ian, I'd love to do the LIF again too but as you say it's somewhat restrictive to anyone up north. Although I much prefer the rivers Clattercote has a lot of FM member history and Simon used to love the fishin's there. I wonder if Wetherspoons in Banbury still do a Full English Breakfast.............

PS I think Spiders has some scales if you can get hold of him........................ :)

I didn’t know Simon that well to be truthful. I knew him mainly from his posts and activities on here and from some fish-in’s that we both attended. Others knew him far better than I did. I think it would make a fitting tribute to have a meeting in his honour. Providing I’m not on holiday when it’s arranged I would love to attend, wherever it is. This is a photo from the LIF I believe it’s Ian. If I remember correctly, I was almost brained on the exact same spot when a dead branch fell from a tree and glanced my head. Wood on wood, could have started a fire.

Blimey,if Spiders had a set of Dial scales we used to have to lug around at matches,no wonder his gudgeon weighed as much as that,he was delirious...

It’s a great idea, Ian. Simon was a silvers man but loved fishing rivers too. Even when not fishing myself I often used to bump into him on the Colne at Ricky or the Thames at Windsor. The LIF is a long way for many and not cheap either. Clattercote would suit more people I think , Simon liked fishing there and it’s full of roach.

Spiders scales are legendary. His pbs will all go up a pound when the clocks go forward.

A question wasn't it Boddington Simon and FM went to in recent years(with most anglers sodden if I remember rightly),mainly because the roach fishing was so good,I was going to go last year I believe but I had an operation around that time....

I missed the last one, (did the monsoon day though. reminiscent of my first trip to the Itchen without the snow), Boddington would be a fitting venue for Simon he had some good roach there and, being pretty central, accessible to more people. We've always done weekends in the past but I suspect most of "the usual suspects" are more liable to have free time midweek:giggle::giggle: :rolleyes:and the venue will probably be quieter.

For God's sake don't hold it on Damn Flask. You'll all be needing treatment for PTSD after a session there.

Better to keep it dahn sarf where there are plenty of pet fish to catch. ;)
