We always love our Valuation Days at Sportfish, Reading, a friendly team and customers and always great quality tackle! Last Saturday was no exception.
Arriving early at 9am, we did not even unpack before the first few customers were upon us, way before the initial start time of 10am! Not that we minded!
Our son Will was on hand again to make the teas and coffees whilst I got comfortable with our first customer who brought in a fantastic collection of centrepin reels. One by one he took them out of his bag and displayed them on the table in front of me! Aerial Gems, Chris Lythe Centrepins, Specialist Roach Perfections by Garry Mills, The Barbel Catcher/Wensum, the list goes on! Wow! After a coffee and some negotiation, a deal was agreed. The seller went away happy and so were we! What a start!
‘Pins’ seemed to be flavour of the morning when the next customer who was patently waiting sat down and produced a beautiful Allcock’s Aerial with twin tapered ivorine handles with a rare ebonite rear flange – complete with its leather reel case! After some discussion and the second deal of the day was done and it wasn’t even 9:30!
Next up was a pair of cracking rods. A mint Paul Cook Artisan Avocet and a fine Andrew Davies Roach Perfection. Both rods in fantastic condition and used literally a few times each! We always love buying in rods by these makers particularly when they have been so well cared for and looked after. Add another coffee and the deal was done! Many Thanks to the seller who took the time to travel a long way to see us at Sportfish.
We carried on steadily buying like this for the next few hours to include some fine Loop reels, Orvis, Hardy Perfects, Hercules, Featherweights, Duchess, Silex’s and some more cracking rods – Hardy Smugglers / Hardy Zephyrus Sintrix (different sizes), Angel Smugglers, Sage TCZ, Sage 1, the list goes on!
All our great buys from Sportfish, Reading are in the process of being advertised on our Thomas Turner website so be sure to have a look.
We are very fortunate to have a great working relationship with the team at Sportfish and will be the only company hosting such events at the Reading store. Many thanks to Jonathan and the team at Sportfish for looking after us again and we can’t wait to return next year. We have already scheduled in the dates, so make a note in your diary! Saturday 29th March and Saturday 18th October. And of course, special thanks to our son William for making I don’t know how many teas and coffees for our customers!
Until next time!
