Put them in a bowl and lay a slice(s) of bead over the top.
On average, they last about 4 to 6 weeks.

It is also worth dipping the Bread in some milk as well. The golden rule though is to keep the foundary sand moist. Not soaking wet, but just damp enough to slightly stick together.

Don't keep them too cold either or you will have a lot of 'skins'. If I remember correctly 3 or 4 degrees Celcius is the best temperature to keep them at.
