I bought a Darent valley 8ft quiver rod today and while I was in the shop I took a look at their own range of rod sleeves. I know that quite a few people on FM have the .75tc 11ft rods and I have a couple myself. While the rods are excellent value for money and a pleasure to use the sleeves the rods come in are worse than useless. They seem to be made out of recycled j-cloths. The own brand rod sleeves seem a far better designed and constructed item. They aren’t as heavily padded as most and the padding is mainly around the reel area and near the tip. The material is a nice 4oz Oxford nylon and the zips are decent YKK jobbies.

The smallest one retails at £16.99 and 11ft is £17.99. I haven’t actually used them yet but I ended up buying three. They also make them to take their range of float rods too.

They look very similar to the Drennan super specialist which I have and use frequently, but unlike them zip up down the spine of the rod. Will they take an umbrella strapped on the outside?

No, there is a place for a net pole and bank sticks but I doubt you could fix an umbrella. I intend to use a quiver and they do fit on the outside of my quiver okay. If I take an umbrella I will put it in the quiver.

A birthday treat Ray? I agree about the bags. I discarded them immediately. The next time I visit Bromley I plan to visit the shop in Dartford.

They were only allowing ten at a time in the shop, which I thought was good and no mask, no entry, which I also thought was good I wish more shops enforced the rules as vigorously Mike. They are mainly carp oriented but have a decent stock of other stuff.

Stuck on the chuffin M25 somewhere between Heathro
I keep meaning to have a schlep over there but its a long old haul for a bloke who doesn't need any more rods.

And "recycled j cloth" really doesn't do the nastiness of those rod bags justice. I bought the 1.25 tc DV twin tip ( decent quiver...absolute pup with the avon top on) and the bag came in a rather fetching shade of dog sh1t brown. Couldn't get it in the bin quick enough.
TBH the DV rods are such good value that an extra quid or two for a decent bag wouldn't even register.
