Cor blimey rods and reels are like ice lollies with you - they don’t last long.

Haha... yeah. I used it a fortnight ago and caught a few chub and perch with it, but I didn't particularly enjoy lure fishing.
I listed it before selling a fly reel for more than twice the price of the rod at lunchtime, so the guilt of having too much gear has subsided and I'll probably keep it.
Been hopelessly flipping between coarse and fly fishing and finally decided I prefer the former, especially as it's 90 minutes to the nearest decent fly fishing... plus the River Usk looks dead... all that chicken sh1t and fertiliser. Not worth the effort when the Avon is only 20 minutes away.
Bags and rucksacks are the proverbial lollipops of my acquisitions, but I take your point, there's no perfect 'thing', so you just have to have several of everything.
Still love my Acolytes (albeit I swapped the 11ft feeder for a 12ft).
