The Drennan FD reel, the only reel I know that can impart so much line twist in a days waggler fishing so as to ruin it,yet the spools are great, what surprises me more is the fact that they are still selling them without taking steps to get rid of the gliches....

Totally agree, the only thing going for it were the spools...was it 3 spare spools you got ? ...and all nice and shallow with a fairly wide drum too.. They even gave you those little rubber grommit things to stick on the side to show the line strength.

...shame they where rendered totally useless by the rest of the reel.

Yes it was three aluminium shallow spools,I thought it was the line I was using,so I tried a few others, all with the same story,terrible...

I had a brief flirtation with pole fishing 3 times and after selling the pole each time I convinced myself that I needed a better pole

Finally after the 3rd pole had been bought and sold I admitted to myself that even though pole fishing is better in some situations its not for me
So it took 3 poles and 2 seat boxes to get there

Fishing is supposed to be for fun,so my pole fishing is very occasional and after doing it I always seem to quickly get back to the rod...

I only pole fished in matches so it sat there for years now unused. Most of us must have piles of unused tackle stored away that was once used regularly.

I swapped the Airity for the Free Spirit. The silver Spectron is 2006 and looks as silver as ever. There's something not right with silver fishing tackle :)
I have The G50 pole with last 3 silver end sections, had it over 5 years and not faded ,yet the Daiwa landing net handle which complemented the pole, the last section on that has faded.
Has the free spirit got 2 threaded sections ,? I know a few good match anglers have them .
Same as I know a few who have the Airity.
Both say they are good, It comes down to personal choice, in the end,

I regret selling my Shimano 850b margin pole ,they yellow butt section one,
As for unused tackle, I am going to have a clear out of both now unused and occasional use tackle .
I have 4 keepnets, only used one of them ,same with landing net heads.

Free Spirit's available with either one or two threaded components. The single one is obviously cheaper than the other, so a nice choice for those that don't require two.

I have several rods bought on a whim that I really didn’t need and rarely use. Nothing wrong with them…just not really needed. Landing net handles are another matter. For some reason they can be brilliant in the shop and proper pups on the bank. As you’d expect I have several of those as well but some just aren’t right. I have a Drennan Specialist and Free Spirit both of which I love and a very light Korum one piece carbon which is my go to for light work. I also have a Hardy Marksman tele which is used only on special occasions or for posing. I love it but I’m paranoid about scratching or damaging it. Doesn’t half look good though.
Reels I’ve done ok with…bar a couple of cheap Sammy Shakespeares all my others get used and perform brilliantly. Mostly Daiwas bar a couple of baby Shimano bait runners.

Bought a Phillips trotting rod,had it made after seeing a guys rod on the H.Avon, when it arrived it was the biggest load of pony ive ever seen,it bent like Geoff Boycott's famed stick of rhubarb and was a horrible creature...
Alan I believe those rods were made of carbon kevlar which results in a stiff rod. I brought a couple of 11ft 1.25tc Phillips rods for tench fishing very powerful blanks but underrated more like 2lb tc and very stiff and not a great fish playing action.

My 4 metre Acolyte has two thread sections, When I bought it I couldn't compare it to free spirit, only the Daiwa, and when spending three figures an a handle you want to have a waggle with them .
The MAP 1001 is just shy of £200 from what I have heard, I know someone who got one last year, it broke on his third or fourth outing. I am not sure if user error or dodgy handle, or he has dropped it and cracked a section without knowing, he just said the handle was rubbish. not seen him to find out if he got replacement from map or the shop.

I have a Phillips Kevlar Avon made by Paul Boote a lovely rod built on a very slim blank. Must be well over 30 years old now.

The rod I had was slimline, well made, but whilst I was playing an 8.6 barbel it became apparent it had no guts and it took me ages to get it in,in spite of me bending the corks, ive landed bigger on a match rod and 3lb line.

Very easy to get to Alan just a few junctions down the A10 from Ware they have their own car park at the rear. Best tackle shop I have been to like Leslies in the quality of stock but far far better service.
